The Eleventh Annual Clay Roberts Memorial Fishing Tournament was held June 16, 2018 with the weigh-in at Beach Marine. Ninety-three boats registered for the tournament with almost half of the fisherman weighing fish. Our inside contact upstairs, Clay, once again provided beautiful weather with only a brief morning shower. The tournament was kicked off in grand style with the Captain’s Meeting on Friday night at the Mudville Grille. Owner Louis Joseph opened the whole bar to the tournament and provided a very tasty low-country boil for everyone. Louis, the kitchen staff and his fantastic service staff went above and beyond to make sure this Captain’s Meeting was the best-ever.
Thanks to all the sponsors, participants and volunteers, the Tournament was once again, a complete success. Ninety-three registered for the competition. Forty-five teams (including Juniors) weighed in fish. Fifteen slams were weighed in. Ten Junior Anglers weighed in. Top honors went to Eddie Cabler and Brian Dutcher whose American Electrical Contracting’s First Place Slam weighed in at a near record 15.11 pounds. Scott O’Brien and Jimmy Pauche placed second in the slam (13.18) and Joseph Stover’s team placed third (12.33). Other results include: Leroy Holloway, a 7.01pound red, Larry Finch weighed a 5.05 pound trout and Ryan Hall weighed a 5.35 pound flounder. The Key Auto Company Junior Angler winner was Elijah Cabler with a Red weighing 5.96 pounds. Yes, the Cabler family placed first in each tournament. Second Place went to Blake Paulk with a 5.65 pound trout. Due to a scoring error, we had two Third Place winners, Alex Patangan with a 4.97 pound trout and Cheyanne Greer with a 3.75 pound red, Fourth Place Joe Joseph with a 2.58 pound trout and Fifth Place Makenzie Danese with a 2.17 pound trout.
